Especially for Families: IEP Goals and Services That Work will be held on Tuesday May 4 from 9:30 -2:30 p.m. OR 5:30 -8:30 p.m. This workshop will provide examples of behavior and academic IEP goals and services. Whether the problem is related to sensory issues, grade-level skills, social needs, or organizational skills, effective IEP goals and services can make the difference between success and failure. A light meal with be provided for lunch and at 5:15 before the evening session. A $10 Kroger gift card, to help with family expenses, will be offered to parents and family members (one card per household). Seating is limited. The 2010 Summer Institute, “Whole Body, Whole Life”, sponsored by the Regional Autism Advisory Council (RAAC) will be held on August 2 – 5. It will be held at the Xavier University Cintas Center (1624 Herald Ave., Cincinnati, OH, 45207), from 8 -4. Cost is $85 a day or $255 for all 4 days. Tuesday, August 3 the topic is Family Issues, Partnerships, and Life Transitions. Parenting Education Classes in Middletown will be held at Holy Trinity, 201 Clark Street (go under the front steps of church to find entrance to lower level classrooms and childcare). Targeted group is families with school age children (6 -12 yrs.). Child care is available free but you must pre-register at 513-863-6129. Topics covered include normal child development, realistic expectations of children and parents, alternatives to physical discipline, communication skills, and stress management and developing coping and problem solving skills. Families with school age children will be held every Thursday April 8-May 20 from 7-8:30 p.m. Families with little ones (birth to 5 yrs.) will be held every Tuesday, April 6 -May 25 from 7 -8:30 p.m.
School to Adult Transition Series is an information series for special needs students and their parents sponsored by Butler County Developmental Disabilities Board. It is held at Janet Clemmons Center, 282 Fair Ave in Hamilton from 6 -7:30 pm on specific Wednesday evenings. Students must register for the student session and be eligible for MRDD services. The Third Annual Cerebral Palsy Conference, "Live Your Dream" will be held on Saturday, May 8th from 8 -4:30 at Cincinnati Childrens Hospital Medical Center, Fifth Third Auditorium, Location D.The keynote speaker will be Janice Brunstrom-Hernandez a leading professor in cerebral palsy research and a living example of independence herself, having experience the journey of living with cerebral palsy since birth. CHADD (Children and Adults with Attention / Hyperactivity Disorder) meet on the 4th Tuesday of the month at First Baptist Church of Mason (735 Reading Rd.) from 7 -10 p.m. Speakers talk for 75 minutes followed by discussion and support. Middletown Youth Dream Catcher Softball will be accepting applications every Saturday and the first Saturday in March at Goldman Park, 1400 Highland St. in Middletown. Cost is $65 and includes hat, shirt, team treats, trophy, mid-season tournament and 14 regular season games. All games will be played on a fenced soft surface field that will accommodate children who are ambulatory, use walkers or are in a wheelchair. For more information contact Denny at 513-422-7418.

Fishing Has No Boundaries, the 15th Annual Fishing Event at Cowan Lake will be held on Saturday, May 22 from 8 -4 pm and Sunday, May 23 from 8:30 -1 p.m. Information and registration forms can be found at www.fhnbcinti.com. Rods, reels, tackle and bait will be available or you can bring your own. All food, snacks, and soft drinks are included in the fee of $10 and you MUST PRE REGISTER.
Special Olympics bowling will continue at Eastern Lanes, 6943 Coles Rd. in Middletown. We will continue to bowl on Saturday's at 1p.m. through May 2010. All participants must provide their own transportation and if needed a caregiver or parent to provide necessary assistance. If you have questions or need more information call Susan at 513-392-5541. Sensory Bounce located at 2109 Lyons Rd in Miamisburg, is a fun place for children with sensory issues and their families. The private sensory bounce group is made up of families of children with sensory issues and the noise is kept to a minimum. It is a great place for parents to socialize and network with other parents. No RSVP is necessary, just show up. Private Sensory bounces are held on the second Monday of each month from 5:30 -7 p.m. and cost $8 at the door. Parents play for free. Remember to bring your socks!

ADHD support group has formed in the south Dayton area (Kettering). The group meets at Christ United Methodist Church, 3340 Shroyer Rd. on the third Tuesday of each month at 7pm. A Peer Support Group sponsored by the Butler County National Alliance on Mental Illness and the Butler County Family and Children First Council has been formed. Epilepsy Support Group of Butler County meets the 4th Thursday of the month at Janet Clemmons Center, 282 Fair Ave. in Hamilton from 6:00 -7:30.
Parents Anonymous helps parents or caregivers deal with the stress of raising children. The meetings are co-led by parents and a professionally trained facilitator and welcome anyone involved in parenting a child. The group meets every Tuesday from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. at the YMCA, 244 Dayton St., Hamilton. For more information call 863-6129.
Asperger's Syndrome, PDD and High Functioning Autism support group meets the first Monday of every month at Christ United Methodist Church, 3440 Shroyer Rd. in Kettering at 7 p.m. Free childcare is provided by the church. TS (Tourette Syndrome) Plus center located at Cincinnati Children's Hospital satellite in Mason will offer the latest information on Tourette Syndrome to families.
